Web Design

Posted under Programming

Web design is the process of planning and creating media for transfer over the internet, normally in the form of mark-up language suitable to be read by a web browser and be converted into an interface of some sort, be it sound or visual. Web design normally makes use of the xHTML language for the final product that is sent to browsers, as well as various other server and client side languages to create effects, features, and to fulfil certain roles. There are thousands of companies and websites specialising in web design, some with more skill than others, to make the process of designing a website easy for the new webmaster.

Microsoft

Posted under Business, Software

Microsoft Corporation is a multinational software developer, manufacturer and licenser, based in the US, employing over 75,000 people. While they have come under much fire for the problems with their flagship operating system, Windows, it remains the dominant operating system in use in the public sector, only really losing out to Linux in the web hosting and development sector. Microsoft also created the XBOX, a highly popular gaming system, and many other lesser known products which sit at the top of their own niches in the market. With over $50bn in yearly income, Microsoft is one of the biggest companies in existence.

Internet Limited?

Posted under Internet

With more and more people using it every day, and colossal volumes of information being transferred every hour, the internet is growing fast, but how long can it continue to grow? There are limits to the speed and volume of data transfer that can be achieved, and when they are hit, it could well cause a huge depression in the internet, which could in turn cause what are now massive companies to fall, simply because they rely entirely on the internet to do business. Some experts estimate that the internet will only be able to cope with this level of growth for a few more years, at which point there will be periodic shortages, and a lot of the work since the .com bubble burst will be rendered worthless.

Online Theft

Posted under Security

Security online is a big issue these days, with so many scammers around, it is becoming hard for the average computer user to know who to trust. People who have been caught out are even beginning to lose trust in bigger companies, like Amazon and eBuyer, blaming them, when they should be working out how and why they were scammed, and maybe childing themselves for not taking the due care. A small amount of awareness online could save thousands, or even your own identity, but many people fail to realise this, blundering in where they should be wary. That is the primary reason for identity theft and online crime, not mistakes by big companies.

SSL

Posted under Security

Secure Socket Layer, or SSL, is now an industry standard in security online. Consumers see it as a sign that their data is safe, and encrypted, and also a sign that they are dealing with a decent sized company, and in some cases, one that they can trust. For an ecommerce website, SSL is an important part of their online presence and reputation. It works by means of SSL enabled servers having two “keys”, public and private, and a transaction between the users browser and the server, using both keys, means that the keys are never openly transferred, making the method very secure. SSL connection prevents hackers from eavesdropping, tampering, or message forgery. Whenever you do a transaction online be sure to do it only on a websites that have a Secure Socket Layer. For example, Paypal has TLS v1.0 256 bit AES (1024 bit DHE_RSA/SHA). Essentially TLS and SSL are the same thing.

After You Format Your Computer…

Posted under Sites, Technology, Tips

After you format a computer there are many things that need to be done to get it ready for basic use. Right after you format any computer and place Windows XP/2000/Vista on it you should update it. How do you update it? Just visit www.update.microsoft.com. Choose either express if you are a baisc user and custom if you have knowledge about the updates.

After you update your computer and restart again and make sure all the updates are downloaded, you want to install flash, Shockwave , and Adobe Reader. Once you download and install those three items I then install Java. Once you install that you just need to protect your new operating system. To do so download or buy an antivirus suite of your choosing.

Best Antivirus Software

Posted under Software

There are many antivirus software out there. To name a few we have Bitdefender, Norton, McAfee, and many more; however, what is important to you is what is the best out of all of them. Now each antivirus software has its strengths and weaknesses but I will tell you which has the most strengths.

Bitdefender Internet Security Suite 2008 is a great program for keeping your computer clean. It is great at defending your computer from viruses but it lacks in strength of protection against spyware.

Panda Internet Security Suite is great at defending your computer against spyware and viruses. I used it and in a week on normal browsing it protected me from over 100 spyware.

Norton’s Internet Security Suite aren’t very good. Im not saying they are bad at protecting your computer but it is an awful program to run on normal home user computers. I say that because it takes so much memory from your Ram just to run it. However, Symantecs Antivirus enterprise edition is a very good program for just viruses and other malware applications.

In my experience I will suggest either Panda Antivirus or Bitdefender.

Send Large Files!

Posted under Sites

Many of you know of file storage servers online that let you upload files but many of them have limits of only 100mb. Now you can send large files to anyone you like up to 1 gigabyte! That’s quite a lot fo data, in fact its 10 times more then is allowed to be stored on rapidshare. In fact it is very easy to use. Just click select file and find your file on your computer. Click open and begin to upload your file. After the upload is complete just either email the link to friend or copy and paste link into your browser! Visit the site here.

However, if you wan to give a file to mass amounts of people I suggest using rapidshare or Megaupload. Megaupload gives you bigger upload limit, 500mb in fact, while rapidshare has a limit of 100. Rapidshare is better in that it is easily accessible to more people, unlike megaupload.
