Software Now there is no such thing really as an “Add-On” for Opera because it is not called an Add-On. Rather, it is called a Widget and there are hundreds of them to download. You can visit Opera to download any of the thousands of widgets. One widget that I personally use is called Dotoo which is a reminder tool. I often forget about homework for my online classes which hurts my grade. For this reason, I started using Dotoo to create To Do lists so I do not forget. There are many other useful widgets on the site such as the one that will allow you to use change between proxies. To access your widget after you download it, just hit the Widgets tab between the Tools and Bookmarks button.

Software Did you know it is possible to recover a significant amount of data from a hard drive that was recently formatted? The reason so is because the data that was previously there was not completely written over, allowing thieves to recover the data. The only way to completely erase all the data from a hard drive is to use programs such as Darik’s Boot and Nuke, also known as DBAN. DBAN works differently from formatting a computer because it can completely write over the whole hard drive with random numbers. You cab boot from DBAN with either a flash drive or a CD/DVD. If you are ever going to sell your computer or give it away, make sure you completely erase all the data using DBAN.

Software There are many Cd/DVD burner softwares out there, however, only a few amount are free and even fewer amount are good. I have searched through the internet to bring you a very nice burning software called InfraRecorder.
Features
» Create custom data, audio and mixed-mode projects and record them to physical discs as well as disc images.
» Supports recording to dual-layer DVDs.
» Blank (erase) rewritable discs using four different methods.
» Record disc images (ISO and BIN/CUE).
» Fixate discs (write lead-out information to prevent further data from being added to the disc).
» Scan the SCSI/IDE bus for devices and collect information about their capabilities.
» Create disc copies, on the fly and using a temporary disc image.
» Import session data from multi-session discs and add more sessions to them.
» Display disc information.
» Save audio and data tracks to files (.wav, .wma, .ogg, .mp3 and .iso).
I have just downloaded this myself and I love it. It allows you to burn audio and bootable Cd’s as well as DVDs. You also have the choice to erase CD-RWs to add more data on to it. Download it and give it a try because it is completely free.

Software The majority of my friends prefer to use FireFox but they always question me how to run files instead of save. When you open any sort of .exe file you will have the option to save it on your desktop then run it. This is tiresome because every time you want to run a file you have to download it and then open it. Luckily, there is an Add-on for FireFox that changes this. It is called OpenDownload and can be downloaded from the FireFox add-on page. How it works is, it will download the file onto your temporary Internet folder and then run it. After a certain period, the file will be deleted.

Software Lets face it, Limewire is one of the most popular P2P softwares out there. It has been downloaded more then 140 million times at Download.com. What is funny is that Limewire Pro is not protected by a CD key or any other mechanism of software protection. Another thing is that Google indexes the pages of customer’s sales link, meaning you can download Limewire after someone elses purchased it. I am not condoning it but merely showing that a secuirty flaw for Limewire. To see for yourself, type “Sales.limewire.com” in Google using the ”site:” function. Click repeat the search with the omitted results included.
Now, most of the results will come up with nothing, but 1 or two links will allow you to download the pro version.

Software BSOD stands for the Blue Screen of Death and it represents an error screen when a critical system error occurs. Moments after your computer will shutdown because it cannot run anymore. Many IT professional loathe this screen because of the steps to fix it can be lengthy or cannot be completed. However, as a joke, you can now have the BSoD as a screen saver. Ironically it is made by Microsoft and it is completely free.

Software More and more people, as well as businesses, are choosing software that allow themselves to remote a PC from virtually anywhere they have access to a computer and Internet. RemotePC offers many great features that other software lack like Remote Meeting, where you are able to hold a virtual meeting. In this meeting you can conduct online presentations and collaborate with people around the world. RemotePC also employs 128-bit RC4/SSL encryption to protect any data that is going though the connection. What is surprising about this software is that you can remote connect to your computer without downloading any software. In other words, you can connect through your browser. Give it a try today by downloading their free demo.

Software Webroot, the developers to the award winning anti-spyware program is offering their Desktop Firewall at no cost to you. You might say, “I already have a firewall built in with Windows” but did you know that this firewall isn’t secure? Windows XP’s firewall is considered a one way firewall, meaning that it can only protect people from breaking in. In other words, Windows cannot stop programs from breaking out. This is where Webroot’s firewall comes in. It can protect you from people on the outside and programs on the inside because it is a Two-way firewall. This firewall can protect you from programs that run in the background and send your information out.

Tips Whenever I turn on my computer I notice ctfmon.exe is running in the background. Like any tech savvy individual, I wanted to know what it is and if I needed to use my precious resources on it. According to Microsoft Ctfmon.exe monitors the active windows and provides text input service support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies.
Now to disable CTFmon.exe because I do not use any of those input technologies you must just download a simple fix to remove it. CTFMON-Remover is a simple program that will edit Windows to disable it from running. The program is only 111kb big and offers an option to restore it as well. It works for 2000, XP, and Vista.
