Chewing gum – society’s pain –

I was just browsing the internet when I came across some shocking facts, did you know:

That each piece of chewing gum on the floor costs around 10p to remove? Maybe you did. But did you know councils around the UK are requesting a tax on chewing gum and fines for dropping it? Well hopefully you should because it was suggested in 2005 and whispers are appearing again at another attempt to bring on the tax. UK gum sales are worth an estimated £258m a year; now imagine how many of those pieces fall on the floor? There are 3 ideas to stop gum dropping:

Ban it

Add a tax

Fine people for dropping it

 Personally I like my gum so the only plausible solution to me is to fine people. I can’t wait for the ‘gum police patrol’ to start coming into force if the government ever waver to the demands.
