Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. And my favorite TV episode of this particular holiday took place on the “George and Leo” program aired during the late 1990’s.
The series starred Bob Newhart as a straight-faced, too honest book shop owner on Martha’s Vineyard. The story opens with Newhart trying to explain his “white” blunders to his young black assistant. “Why don’t you want to come to Thanksgiving dinner because you’d feel out of place being the only black person there?”
The turkey is ready, sitting on the table but there’s one problem – no one wants to be at the dinner. Everyone is checking their watches and devising exit strategies. You’ve been there at some time right folks?
Little Background On The Series
If there is one thing I appreciate about satellite television, is being able to watch not only the current programming on Cable Tv but my past favorite TV episode as well. Originating in the 1997-99 television season, this is not only my favorite TV episode of this series, it also happens to be my favorite of the three Bob Newhart series. The ambiance is definitely Martha’s Vineyard. Unfortunately, after 24 episodes the show was canceled due to low ratings – it had been placed opposite Monday night football. I really enjoyed the chemistry which Newhart and the other actors produced.
