Reset Nintendo Gamecube Controller

I own a Wii and not a gamecube but I still use the controllers. I personally dislike using a Wii controller for Super Smash Brothers which is why I prefer the gamecube controller. Recently, I have been using my controller quite a lot and I started to notice that the controller will continue in one direction even after I let go of the joystick. Meaning, I press right on the joystick, my character continues to go right even when I let go. I tried everything to fix it but the only way I know how to fix it is to reset the gamecube controller. To do so, all you must to is hold the X and Y button as well as the start button. Hold it for 8 seconds or so and your controller will be reset.
